Chris Rake, one of my favorite geocoin artists sent an email last night that he was cleaning out his old stock. Unfortunately for us it was on eBay. You can't blame him because of the crazy amounts of money that the coins will sell for. You can see these coins by searching for (Artist collection, geocoin) at the "It" store.

Geocoins Around the Planet project

A geocacher has taken on a huge project: Make a geocoin for each of the 192 countries that they have placed a geocache! One would think that the overall quantity of the coins would make the coins very generic, but the first coin is pretty amazing in my opinion you can check it out in detail here. The bad news for people in the USA is this is that the Germans will be making the coins, so they will be more expensive and take a looooong time to get.

Protect those expensive geocoins

I was going through a friends coin collection recently and couldn't help but notice how much corrosion and buildup had happened in not much time at all. I defiantly don't want that to happen to my geocoin collection, so I have been looking around for a way to protect them from oxygen. If you are planning on setting a coin in a cache this is needless to say, not necessary.

There are starting to be some Ebay overpriced holders out there so be careful!!!

So far, the best I have found is the X model (Ring type) of AirTite found here, and many other places I imagine. The great thing about this store is that they have this coin diagram. You can print it out and see exactly what size to buy. I chose the X model because it is for thick coins (like geocoins). The best part about this brand is that they support most of the available geocoin sizes out there (obviously not the custom shaped ones). These look great with your coins. They have a cool black or white border. If you have some better methods please let me know!

Mini Geocoin packs a big price tag

There is a new generic mini geocoin from a new store called Generic Mini Geocoin but at $8.95 each I doubt you will see many ;) If you have a bunch of extra dollars burning a hole in your pocket you can get some here.

Sorry Chris, I think you are the second ;) to have a "geornament." I think this coin/ornament thing will catch on. The Dear Santa Geocoin is coming to The Geocoin Store. It looks like there will be 3 festive colors to choose from with both shiny gold and shiny silver versions. $7.50 plus ship. They aren't available yet, but you can see them here.

Whitebear Geocoin at Landsharkz

Here is a unique coin from a GC forums regular. There was an annoying rollover on the website so I could only get the back, but the front has a very angry bear that apparently bit the coin. The bear looks like that half polar/half grizzly that was in the news not long ago :) You might be able to reserve one from White Bear here.

Pathtags upgrades trading

Pathtags did a big upgrade to their site. It's funny because I just completed some trades today. I think some people will really get into this. I am waiting to see how well it works with the outside world. The current adds definitely make trading easier, but I would like to see how these travel. It is really great having an inexpensive personal item that's cool... I do believe they are somewhat like kids though... you love your own :) You can check out the site with limited access here.

Trading works like this:

- Find a tag you like
- Select "Offer Trade" from the tag's profile or from the gallery
- After you offer the trade, you have to wait for your partner to accept
- When they accept, the trade tool "lights up" the item where you can indicate you mailed it.
- After your partner has sent their tag, your page lights up with an area to type the serial to confirm receipt
- After both partners indicate receipt, the trade auto-closes and is preserved in your full history

Wow, I don't know what to say about the Geoswag December coin... It looks like it's an ornament to me. Well, I think it looks nice. The funny thing is I was about to write a post about how I though it was weird that a lot of the German coins had loop holes as if to be hung. I guess a Christmas tree is just as good of a caching spot as any! You can check it out here.

Cache Critters & Carion Crow in hand

I received a bunch of coins yesterday! Most notably the Cache Critters coin and the Carion Crow. I have been looking forward to the Critters for a while now and it is beautiful. I guess I knew it was a 1.5" coin, but I guess I was expecting a little larger probably because all the pictures were huge :) Outstanding Mackey quality! The surprise was the Carion Crow coin though. I couldn't believe how nice it is in person. This is definitely in my top 5 coins. It features a two piece front design. They made the wing separately to give it a great 3D look. Unfortunately it had some scrapes on the back, but Mike from The Geocoin Store was very nice about it and is actually sending my replacement at the same time I send back the damaged coin! They do have impressive service there!

A new badge coming up

Yes, this does look a lot like the ChiP's Badge, but it is a V2 from a coin that started earlier this year. It is unclear what the price is or if you can make reservations but if you really want one I would attempt to contact cqdx through their GC account here.

Wow, I expected the F-14, but the CHIPs badge was unexpected! I would watch that show all the time! This coin is in several metals, but I suspect the shiny gold will be the sellout. Looks like The F-14 comes in copper or silver. I like the silver best. HogWild is going hog wild for the Christmas rush! You can get these great coins here.

A couple of coins I missed!

Mustang Joni pointed out there are a couple of coins that I have missed! There is a cool coin at CH Quality called Rockin Roddy's Cachestalkers Geocoin. A great Michigan coin. You Michigan guys love to make coins! It costs $8.75 plus ship. You can pick it up here.

For those waiting on Crake's second batch of Suncatchers they are being held by those nasty mugglers in customs. He is still optimistic that the problem will be handled in less than a week.

A10 Warthog geocoin soon

Here is a sample. I personally like the A10. A bunch are stationed here in Boise, ID. It's cool to see them flying around in formation. The strange thing about this geocoin is it seems to be missing the characteristic BIG Gatling gun in the nose. I don't know if they figured that you wouldn't see it with the angle of the plane or if it would just scare children ;) I hope when it's said and done they put it on.
